Kingsmill Community Foundation kicks off inaugural Education Series May 2, 2026 ~ Architectural History ~

Architectural History

On May 2nd, over 75 Kingsmill community members enjoyed a presentation of the history and architectural significance of the Kingsmill Dependencies presented by Mark Wenger (Architect & Architectural Historian). If you missed the event, no worries, we recorded the session, both Part 1 and Part 2 of Mark Wenger's talks are available below for you to watch and listen anytime.

A few fun facts:

  • The brick used for the construction of the structures are extremely well made

  • The Dependencies were built with a water table which is very unusual

  • The fact that the stone stairs still exist is EXTREMELY rare

  • The Dependencies and Out Buildings are terms for the same structures

  • The term Office during the 18th Century was used for any space that had a specific purpose. So a laundry room was an office or a kitchen was an office
